The Fundraising Letter PS: 25 Things to say that powerful (includes examples and samples)
Donors read postscripts. This is an important but sad reality in fundraising. Sad because the PS is stupid and belongs to another millennium. In this age of word processors, no one has to add one more PS. However, a major donor, since reading a PS is a donor seeking information. And this is your chance.
According to direct mail consultant Allyn Kramer, there are five "hot spots" in direct mail packages where readers initially. Here are, in order:
1. outer envelope
2. Brochure title
3. Under the direction (the letter is a)
4. Signature line (who the letter is from)
5. Postscript
Since the PS is a part of your letter that you can be sure your donors to read, you have to write something there that will encourage donors to send a gift or take action you want. Here are some ideas.
- Re-phrase your question in a new way
- Reiterate the deadline for members of gift if no
- Point to your site from the donor to make a donation online
- Invite donors to refer a friend who can support your organization
- Invite donors to complete the enclosed reply card and envelope
- Remind donors that their gifts are tax deductible
- Invite donors to join his monthly donation program
- Repeat if necessary to support a fresh way
- Include a brief and powerful story demonstrating in favor of the gift of your will make an immediate difference
- Invite donors to improve their gift
- Offer a free guide on how to write a will or make a bequest to your organization, sent to all who send a gift
- Draw your reader's attention to a section in the enclosed brochure that illustrates your current need and encourages a gift

- Explain what will happen if you do not receive sufficient funding (without spreading fear and without making your donor feel guilty)

- Add a personal note about why you are so passionate about this particular ask – and why you need the donor to send a gift today

- Re-state the size of gift you are requesting
- Explain supporters to make a donation using your credit cards
- Remind donors of your goal for this campaign
